RANDY MOMII ART

Acrylic on watercolor paper: 22 x 30

At first glance, the tree may look dead with spears of lifeless wood jutting into the air. Such is the case of the twisted forms and richly colored wood of the 4,500-year-old tree that appears to cling to life. Secreted away in California’s White Mountains are the awe-inspiring groves of the oldest trees in the world. The Ancient Bristlecone Pines, some nearly 5,000 years old, have been shaped and gnarled by thousands of years of gale-force winds and freezing temperatures. Conditions are generally too arid for the dead wood to rot; instead, the trees erode and are sanded down like rock.

The resilience and survival of the trees in their majestic environment make them one of nature’s most impressive examples of strength and sheer tenacity, continuing to exist against all odds. In my paintings, I reflect my appreciation of the wonder and magnificence of these incredible living trees, truly a phenomenal feat, and an inspiration for us all.
